Signal acquisition and instrument control with the VISA Toolbox

Today Scilab Enteprises is releasing the first version of the VISA toolbox for signal acquisition and instrument control.

Developed in partnership with National Instruments, this extension to Scilab provides a universal interface for measurement devices.

This toolbox can work with most of the device suppliers on the market, in particular National Instruments and Agilent/HP. It supports a variety of devices, including:

  • Digital multimeter (DMM)
  • Oscilloscope
  • Arbitrary waveform/function generator
  • DC power supply
  • AC power supply
  • Spectrum analyzer
  • RF signal generator
  • Upconverter
  • Downconverter
  • Digitizer
  • Counter/timer

The Virtual Instrument Software Architecture (VISA) is a standard for configuring, programming, and troubleshooting instrumentation systems comprising GPIB, VXI, PXI, Serial, Ethernet, and/or USB interfaces. VISA provides the programming interface between the hardware and development environments.

The VISA toolbox is freely available for on ATOMS, the repository for packaged extension modules ("Toolboxes") for Scilab, at https://atoms.scilab.org/toolboxes/visa.
