Distributed multi-disciplinary optimization
ANR Project

The OMD2 project takes up the challenge of modeling and designing engineering systems using distributed computing. OMD2 associates multi-disciplinary teams (fluids and solid mechanicians, applied mathematicians and computer scientists) around far-reaching, difficult, industrial problems.

It is composed of three parts:

  •  The up-scaling of existing design algorithms for (task and data) distributed computing,
  •  Their integration in Scilab, distributed, collaborative, open software platform,
  •  Their application to real automotive design problems with environmental objectives.

The OMD2 project does not only aim at linking existing simulation software together (although it will), but also at providing new control algorithms for multidisciplinary simulations, uncertainty propagation and optimization that work in an HPC environment. Therefore a programming language, shared by a large part of the engineering community is needed. This is the idea behind scripting in SCILAB with added distribution abilities.
