Industrial implementation of mathematical models with Scilab

The production of ferroalloys requires complex processes, conducted at very high temperatures. In order to optimize the use of expensive chemical agents and to reduce the duration of the process, ERAMET Research is developing a numerical model to simulate the behavior of pneumatic metallurgical reactors with Scilab. The complexity of the system (various chemical species and reactions, thermodynamics) and the industrial demand for an efficient simulation tool require the use of several features of Scilab. We will present the problems we faced with this system, the solutions we found with Scilab, and how they impact the speed and the accuracy of the simulation.
