Keynote - Scilab for Mathematical Education and High Performance Computing

By Tetsuya Sakurai, University of Tsukuba

Scilab provides a powerful open computing environment for engineering and scientific applications, and it has a potential to become useful tools in various areas. In this talk, we show the needs and usage of Scilab for mathematical education and high performance computing (HPC).

Recent changes of educational environment in classrooms with electric devices such as PCs, Internet and interactive whiteboards require good computer tools for education. We study advantages of using Scilab for mathematical education with such electric devices. Next, we discuss demands for script type languages for large-scale computing on cluster computers. We will also mention a future release of Scilab that will fit HPC.
