Japan

Japan represents about 10% of Scilab software worldwide downloads. For the last few years, the number of Japonese books dealing with Scilab has significantly increased. A new website dedicated to Japonese Scilab users has been launched in August 2009.

With the support of the National Institute of Informatics, the first Scilab Toolbox Japan Contest was launched in 2006. Since that, the NII has organized every year the contest to encourage broad use of Scilab software by students in Japanese universities and colleges.

In parallel, NII invites each year since 2008 the Scilab Consortium to participate to its Open House. At this occasion in 2009, Claude Gomez, Director of the Scilab Consortium, has given a conference untitled “Open Source Software in Scientific Computation”.

Among others, the universities of Tokyo, Tsukuba and Hiroshima use Scilab software.

Professor Tetsuya Sakurai (University of Tsukuba) is member of the Scilab Consortium’s scientific board.
